WELCOME TO THE SHIRE ACCORDS WEBSITE
A Liquor Accord is the formalisation of a coordinated and cooperative approach by the liquor industry and other stakeholders to deal with alcohol related problems in the local area. An Accord brings together key stakeholders to develop practical solutions to deal with both the real and the perceived impact of alcohol related problems and crime.
The Miranda Local Area Command (LAC) Liquor Accord was established in 2002 after the previous Sutherland Shire Accord undertook a formal separation. The main reasons for the separation was to foster working relationships between licensed premise staff and the Police Officers working within the same Local Area Command, and to encourage Accord members to focus on local needs and concerns.
The Miranda LAC is comprised of the eastern area of the Sutherland Shire from Gymea (Sylvania Road) to Cronulla and includes the suburbs of Caringbah, Kurnell, Miranda and Woolooware.
In 2009, the Miranda Accord was endorsed by Council and Police as a working group of the Community Crime Prevention and Safety Committee. A representative from the Accord reports project outcomes and newly developed strategies to this coordinating body at their quarterly meeting.
The Accord is targeted at all licensed premises in the Miranda LAC including clubs, hotels, restaurants, bottle-shops and community based sporting clubs.
